Dental Implants

Dental implants and their restorations are highly sophisticated medical devices that require:

  1. A level of understanding and skill above and beyond traditional dentistry
  2. A skilled team, including a surgical and restorative specialist, working in concert to provide the best possible functional and esthetic outcome
  3. Diligent home care and more frequent professional maintenance than is required of natural teeth

Dental implants are great for replacing missing teeth and currently represent the best possible solution available to us. However, some points to remember:

  1. Although it is often impossible to differentiate an implant from a natural tooth, dental implants will never function or look EXACTLY like the natural tooth they are replacing
  2. Dental implants are at risk of peri-implant disease and failure
  3. Not all implants are created equal

It is important to discuss in detail the advantages, disadvantages, and possible contraindications to dental implants prior to beginning treatment.

Before you make the decision to have a tooth extracted and a dental implant placed, we recommend meeting with an experienced periodontist.  Often, Drs. Allan and Broline can help you preserve natural teeth that have decay or bone loss and delay the need for a dental implant.  Call our office at 512-343-9488 to schedule a consult to determine if dental implants are right for you.
